On the historic day that Apollo 11 landed first humans on the moon, Kim Ku-lim held a screening of The Meaning of 1/24 Second, first Korean experimental film, at Academy Music Hall. As it turned out, the screening was cancled due to technical problems, and Kim staged ‘moving canvas’—he and Jung Kang-ja dressed up entirely in white tights and did a performance in front of 4 slide projectors. The Meaning of 1/24 Second was eventually screened, for the first time, during an exhibition in 2001 at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, with its original film going missing afterwards. Title of the film was based on the idea that film projection is made through 24 frames per second, and, as for the scenes of the film, a montage of inconsistent everyday life sceneries was created. At the beginning of the same year, Kim was working on Civiliation, Woman, Money, Korea’s first film to feature nude scenes, but had to end it because the actress, feeling humiliated, ran away without notice.

1969년 7월, 아폴로13호가 달에 착륙하여 인류의 첫발을 디딘 역사적인 날 김구림은 아카데미 음악 감상실에서 한국 최초의 실험영화인 ‹1/24초의 의미›의 상영회를 가졌다. 그러나 기술적인 문제로 상영이 취소되자 그는 정강자와 함께 흰색 전신타이즈를 입고 4대의 슬라이드 프로젝터 앞에서 퍼포먼스를 선보이며 ‘움직이는 캔버스’를 연출했다. ‹1/24초의 의미›는 결국 2001년 국립현대미술관에서 열린 전시에서 처음으로 상영되었으며 이 이후에 필름 원본은 유실되었다. ‘1초에 24프레임으로 구성되는 필름영사 방식’에 착안하여 만들진 영화 속 장면들은 일관성 없는 일상의 풍경이 몽타주의 형식으로 구성되어 있으며, ‘탁 탁 탁 탁’ 끊기는 영사기의 소음이 영화의 사운드를 대체한다. 한편 김구림은 같은 해인 1969년 초겨울 ‹문명, 여자, 돈›이라는 국내 최초 누드영화를 8mm 필름으로 촬영하고 있었으나 수치심을 느낀 여배우의 무단이탈로 인해 제작이 중단되는 고초를 겪었다고 회고했다.
